Revised
Agriculture & The Environment Available
The Teacher's
Guide, Agriculture and the Environment, has been completely
revised, updated, reviewed and now contains 6 chapters. The six
topics are agricultural and environmental issues, pesticides
and pest management, food safety and regulation, water quality,
understanding wetlands, endangered species, and a summary section
think globally, act locally. The new publication also
includes two examples of student science experiments that relate
to these topics and shares their experiences with public perceptions
versus scientific realities.
Originally
developed by an award-winning teacher and published in 1999,
this publication has been very well received by teachers at the
National Science Teacher's Association convention and Ag in the
Classroom programs across the United States. Intended for use
in middle school/junior high school classrooms, the revised guide
continues the hands-on activities found in the previous edition.
This revision corrects some of the misinformation found in textbooks,
the Internet, in the mass media. It provides teachers with a
resource to develop the critical thinking skills of their students.
By providing opposing viewpoints on these topics, we help students
learn how to think, not what to think. For many students, learning
that there are facts in evidence and opinions that differ from
those in print or on the news may be the first step to thinking
objectively about issues.
The Agriculture
and the Environment publication is now available from the
foundation for $3.00 per copy. It can be ordered on this Web
site or by contacting the foundation at (847) 969-2976. Please
note the new phone number!
