Math Problem:
One Student + Clever Idea = Contest Winner
Decker
Hubbs, an 11 year old from Kaycee, WY, was among the 12 fourth
and fifth grade students across the state who submitted winning
ideas in this year's Wyoming Agriculture in the Classroom Bookmark
Contest.
"An
Agriculture Math Problem: Popcorn - Farmer = No Popcorn"
was Hubbs' creative approach to conveying the importance of agriculture
in words and visual images. He and 11 other talented students
were selected by a committee to have their work printed on bookmarks
that are distributed to schools, libraries and businesses across
the state.
Each bookmark
contains information about the winning student designer as well
as a related Ag Fact. Hubbs' bookmark informs readers, "Americans
consume 1.2 billion pounds of popcorn a year. It takes farmers
to grow it!" The bookmarks are also printed on a calendar
that features a photo and profile of a student contest winner
on each of the 12 monthly pages.
